For Genesis Owusu’s “STAMPEDE”, Brown went to Accra, spent weeks on research before writing a frame, recce’d on the back of the city’s daredevil riders’ own bikes and cast residents of Jamestown instead of actors. The result took Silver for music video at the Young Director Award 2026.
Play · vimeoIsaac Brown is an Australian director whose video for Genesis Owusu’s “STAMPEDE” was shot in Accra, Ghana, the artist’s first return to the country in eleven years. Directors Notes reports that Brown spent weeks on research before writing a frame: Ghanaian cinema, the country’s independence history and a VICE documentary about its daredevil bike riders. The riders themselves became the cast; the crew recce’d locations on the back of their bikes, and residents of Jamestown were cast rather than actors.
“I didn’t want to impose a story on Ghana from the outside. I wanted to find something real that already existed there and build from that.”
Cinematographer Daniel Attoh shot it; Ferg Rotherham graded; Phonomena Productions produced with WB Group. Owusu rides on the back of a truck surrounded by motorcycles, then horses, as the track escalates. “Once you add horses, a Steadicam and a quad bike into that kind of window, it becomes a pretty challenging thing to pull off,” Brown told Directors Notes.
It is the second collaboration between Brown and Owusu, and it took Silver in the music video category at the Young Director Award 2026, presented during Cannes Lions in June. Brown is a regular on ABC’s rage; more of his work is on his site.
